The photos exhibited in "Ruth in the East - Ruth in the West" are taken from family albums. Ruth Wohlfarth, née Steinert, was born into a brewer's family in Kamsdorf/Thuringia. The "Zollhaus" brewery, founded in 1806, was expropriated after World War II. In love with an engineer, who first emigrated to Perú, later to México, Ruth moved from her "Eastern" home to the adventurous "West" with her children … Sonia Wohlfarth Steinert's exhibition presents 40 enlarged and edited photos as well as two DVD presentations on "East" and "West" consisting of app. 500 further photos, original photo albums and cameras from 1900 up to the 60ies.

The enlarged photos reflect the ambience, the time, but also personal snaps. Subjects of "Ruth in the East" are amongst others war photos from World Wars I and II, greetings from Italy, photos of the farm and "Zollhaus" brewery in Thuringia. "Ruth in the West" shows amongst others the housemaids, the swimming pool or the furnishings in Perú resp. México.

There are photo albums in many households. The stories of lives on photographic paper.
